My Month started off with the World champs qualification event held at Bryn Bach Park in Wales. This also incorporated trials for European u23 championships which meant for a very strong field with a lot at stake. We travelled up the day before in order to check out the bike course which included 2 hills as well as some technical parts meaning that it would be a challenging course.
My race started pretty well getting a decent start and fairly decent swim, I felt pretty comfortable and knew I was roughly where I wanted to be. Onto the bike and it was quickly apparent the legs hadn’t shown up. With 3 or 4 off the front I spent the first lap in the first main pack however struggled to maintain changes in pace on a tough course and dropped back. I was pretty much out the race from here but still wanted to put a solid run in to reflect the training and form I was in but stomach cramps meant I was just holding on to even finish. Having only done one race prior to this I probably wasn’t in the best position to get the performance I wanted however was just happy to be racing.
At the end of the month I raced the Newbury Triathlon, my local race. This was my second time racing this event having won the previous year. It went pretty well again and managed to get the win again with a decent swim and bike. With the British champs next week I eased off on the run and despite this was only 10 seconds off my 2018 split!
Away from Tri I am happy to announce I will be going to Loughborough uni in September following my last race of the season next Saturday. Thank you to all those who have supported me so far most notably Pedal Potential and Bike Box Alan in a pretty frustrating year this has been a massive help!
